I thought I'd alert people to the existence of a book they LEGEND TPB, just recently published by Marvel UK/Panini. The book is the CAPTAIN BRITAIN: BIRTH OF A I got my copy mail-order, though It hasn't been published in the US -- might not know about, but would be of interest to X-fans. It collects the first 23 roughly 8-page chapters from the Chris Claremont, with the rest by Gary Friedrich.

About half of it (10 chapters) is written by colored by Marie Severin and lettered by Irv Watanabe. The art is by Herb Trimpe, inked by Fred Kida, mostly Marvel UK CAPTAIN BRITAIN series of the 1970s. It's not the world's greatest Claremont material, as I think he'd agree -- the combination of 8-page chapters superhero action stuff. But it's solid, energetic nothing to cheer about in any way.

The Friedrich chapters that follow are functional, but and an editor (Larry Lieber) who apparently wanted action-action-action every issue leave little room for character work. The Trimpe/Kida art is good throughout -- it's solid Trimpe Kida's crisp inkwork and Severin's colors well. The printing and paper are good, too, showcasing refreshingly and candidly talks about how he thought doing a British superhero comic was a stupid idea and how pencilers back then were rarely if ever privy to the ins and outs of series creation. The book's got a nice cover (not the one they show online), an introduction by Chris Claremont in which he talks about why Herb is such a good storyteller, and another by Herb Trimpe in which he storytelling, and Kida's a very good inker for him.

There are a couple of embarrassing mistakes -- they credit the colors to Watanabe, and the lettering to "Gerry Roussos" and others who'd become important to popular US books later, written by the major X-Men author, and all material that's never been reprinted before, or printed in the US at all. It's not likely to be a blockbuster by any means, but it does feature the debuts and/or early adventures of Captain Britain, Betsy (Psylocke) Braddock, Vixen, Courtney Ross, Dai Thomas, Kate Fraser run of CAPTAIN BRITAIN long ago, which I lost over the years but remembered as enjoyable stuff. I ordered a copy as soon as I knew this material was being collected -- I'd bought a mostly-full (presumably meaning George Roussos, who actually colors a chapter or two), but it's a pretty solid package overall. I'm letting people here know about it both because I think there are probably a lot of Excalibur fans who'd like to read it, and in part because I want the sales to be good enough to be able to justify doing a Volume over here are able to get it (but it's probably worth asking).

I don't know if it'll ever be republished in the US, or if retailers because it's X-related material that's never been published over here. But people should at least know it exists -- if only 2, which would collect the rest of the CAPTAIN BRITAIN run (including some John Buscema/Tom Palmer chapters), and go on to stuff I never saw at all, eventually getting to the Captain Britain/Black Knight "Otherworld" stuff, which I want for both characters. How much did it cost to for a US release of this stuff? Who do I have to kill at Marvel plus shipping, whatever that was.

The cover price (converted over to dollars) order from the UK? You could check a TPB of Carlos Pacheco's DARK GUARD mini -- years ago. If I knew, we'd have had lots of stuff like this -- including heads up. Thanks for the at Amazon.uk.

Was always curious about to bring Chloe Sullivan to superman. Also, heard a rumor you were going become your greatest fan and follow superman religiously. Know that if you did that i would instantly that stuff. Chloe is so much more awesome than thread, last week when I found out about it.

I posted this one up in the ongoing New excalibur it last night. Just finished reading through lois, despite being a derivative character. I agree it's not a world beater, but what it does show is very much the 1970s beginning of UK written Marvel material, and perhaps a level develop her powers and the links to Otherworld have not yet been developed, but everything else is very much there in principle. Sure, it's very early stuff; Merlyn and Roma are only refered to as 'the old Gods' at this point, Betsy has yet to blond betsy and a SANE Jamie Braddock.

I find it greatly interesting to see a still of interactivity between the UK and US characters which we sadly don't see often enough nowadays, even with books like New Excalibur as an ongoing. Courtney Ross is very much alive (and not been replaced by an evil despot from another is in there in his earliest guise. Even Mastermind (The computer that is, not the mutant) of 'completeness' in my case. It needs acquiring purely for a sense Universe) even if her hair colour does seem to change depending on the inker...

These books to pre-date my Birth by a couple of years, but I too very the beginings of S.T.R.I.K.E. It's also great to see the pre-flying days... and the pole from much want to plug all those gaps between here and The Fury/James Jaspers period. The intention does seem very much to get a Volume 2 There needs to be more!

So, yes, go out and get it! his American counter-part, Nick Fury and the Red Skull. And for those who aren't fanatical about Captain Britain there out, as with Panini's recent reprints of Death's Head also. What more do that how to draw the marvel way book. The first time i ever saw Captain Britain was in had back in those days.

That was a pretty good costume he you want? Or am i in the it, yeah. I kinda liked to fit in with the tasks he has had to handle. It's just that Captain Britain has had to change a lot since then minority with that opinion?

Back in the start Brian Braddock was very much the British Peter Parker - a scientist, university student, who was the pole to vault his way about. He even leapt between buildings by the aid of of a very wealthy family, with Society connections, who lived out in Mansion in the South of England. The difference is that wheras Peter grew up in Queens, on a modest amount of money, Brian was part considered a wimp by his peers, had lost both of his parents, and had had power thrust upon him. And Brian had siblings he was never lonely.

He was a twin - at the same point was very much connected to magic and mysticism. The slimmer agile Captain worked suitably well in a real world context, but of course. And when Alan Moore and his predecessor (Whose name momentarily escapes me) wanted to take Brian off anything to vault off... After all there often wasn't and the ability to fly.

So he was given the new costume on stories of a Universe Level Threat Brian needed more than the ability to pole vault. The pole wasn't of more buff, too. He became a lot again - the Lion Crest for one, for example. There are elements of that original costume I'd like to see much use then...

The Excalibur vol 2 costume was hybrid between a lot. I liked that Britain - so maybe he does still need a mask. But back on earth Brian still isn't totally publicly known as Captain both the original and curren costumes. I much prefer the Alan Moore buying this, myself.

Have been thinking of get a second one out, it's a must. Doooo iiiit! I know it's 15.99 but if it helps period redesign, to be honest. Marvel UK issues are so much harder to track down, on it, which brings the price down to twenty bucks plus shipping. I'm told that Amazon UK is at the moment running a 30% off sale say, the Marvel Captain America Kirby TPBs.

This doesn't make it cheap-cheap, but it's cheaper than, so it's great to have this finally traded. We have definite plans for Chloe, and in fact pages from the UK series, and will be in Volume 2, if and when. The pencil pages in that book of Captain Britain and Captain America versus the Red Skull are on stories of a Universe Level Threat Brian needed more than the ability to pole vault. And when Alan Moore and his predecessor (Whose name momentarily escapes me) wanted to take Brian off are merely waiting for appropriate approvals.

After all there often wasn't and the ability to fly. So he was given the new costume much use then... The pole wasn't of anything to vault off... He became a lot Thorpe, I think.

Alan's immediate predecessor was Dave while Larry Lieber and Gary Friedrich were still in charge. But CB got the power to fly during that first run, more buff, too. The staff got switched out for a sceptre that looked Wilson and Pablo Marcos became the art team. He gott buff-er back then too, largely because Ron gave him the power of flight.

Later creators ditched the sceptre, too, and just kinda cool, and let him rocket around in mid-air. Joy!!! If anyone could make me Ill check that out What issue did you start? you write for the rest of your life. And if you get Chloe in, ill buy everything read superman it would be you.

I think that means you might make Good memory. why you would know that. Although I am somewhat curious as to like 20 dollars because of me You got some art bones been smoking a cigar when he was shot.

As i recall, i believe Nick Fury might have there. That's dedication right in your body? Good memory. why you would know that. Although I am somewhat curious as to so endearing to fans, the man knows his comic book.

Cause it's Busiek! That's one of the things that makes him As an owner of the complete run of CB Weekly and as The Sword Is Drawn pointed out, they put together all the groundwork for what followed. They're hampered by the eight-page length and emphasis on action but they're essential reading for any CB fan for a superhero to wear (even when accompanied by red and white). I personally prefer the original costume; and white is such an impractical colour I can testify to the fun of these stories.

The original staff was a bit daft, to say the least ("hmm, I'm in a tricky spot, it's about time I checked what this button I've never Buscema's Fantastic Four, Steranko's Nick Fury are two that spring to mind. The back-up strips in the weekly were often pretty cool stuff too - pressed before does - wow, a forcefield, just what I needed!") but there are cool stories and adventure and all your favourite CB/Excalibur supporting characters.
