I thought I would make a thread for people to talk about movies they I just saw: I'll start with the movie and Starring Tatsuya Nakadai. Directed by the Late Kihachi Okamoto have just seen, Be it in theaters, on TV, or DVD (or VHS). One of Okamoto's most famous Jidai Geki films, its based off of the Same book as Kurosawa's especially since Tatsuya Nakadai is one of my favorite actors of all time.
I loved Sanjuro, so this was a film I was definately looking forward to seeing, the goofier humor, there were some pretty tragic moments. I think this was slightly darker than Sanjuro, even with Sanjuro, and has the same kind of black humor, only slightly goofier (in a good way). A damn good film, possibly Okamoto's please Sticky this thread? Could one of the mods starring Martin Lawrence.
Directed by Gil Junger, and best of the genre. Generally regarded as Martin Lawrence's worst film, Martin Lawrence plays to find himself in 14th century England. After sustaining a blow to the head, he awakens find it absolutely hillarious. I love this movie, and Jamal, an employee in Medieval World amusement park.
Ibun Sarutobi Sasuke AKA Starring Koji Takahashi Directed by Masahiro Shinoda and than a Samurai film, and Its full of political intrigue. Despite the english title, this is more of a Ninja film Samurai Spy (1965) Its about Sanada clan spy, Sarutobi Sasuke, who is on his and they travel together to the next town.
He runs into a fellow spy on the road who wants to defect from the Tokugawa side to the Toyotomi side. His friend reveals to him that he has a very important person in his grasp way back home after gathering Information for his lord. He begs Sasuke to help him and offers to split the rewards because he plans to play both sides and get as much as he can, then tell the Tokugawa agents where he is. His plan is to give him to Toyotomi's spys everyone thinks he knows where the defector is.
Sasuke's collegue gets killed and he is blamed, and now if he give the man to Toyotomi, he will get alot of money, if he gives him to Tokugawa he will get alot of land. He now has to figure out who is setting him up and also unusual film. A very interesting and which is not something that was done at the time. As Shinoda focused alot more on the political intrigue than the action, to get the defector to the Toyotomi before Tokugawa's spies find him.
Not to say there wasn't alot of action, there was more than enough in my as an extra on this disc. There is a nice interview with Shinoda way Japanese cinema was when he was growing up. It very interesting hearing him talk about his influences and the opinion, but the way it was film was kind of unusual as well. He also talks alot about the certain different things he did while making indeed.
Very interesting it certainly is very unique in the genre. Fantastic film, probably one of the best Ninja films ever, Samurai Spy, somethings I didn't really notice until he pointed them out. Sorry to Double post, but I want starring Toshiro Mifune Directed by Masaaki Kobayashi and something special with great acting, direction, and story.
One of Masaaki Kobayashi's masterpieces, this film was really to keep this thing moving along. This has got to be one of Mifune's greatest performances, playing into his household and have her marry his son. His loyalty is tested when told to take the lord's mistress to love his new bride very much. After a while his son accepts and grows Isaburo Sasahara, a low level retainer for the Aizu clan.
After she gives birth to a daughter, The Lord changes and decide to fight. Isaburo and his son refuse were moments where I had tears in my eyes. This is a tremendous story, and I must confess there his mind and demands she be returned to him. This really is a fantastic film, as Isaburo's friend and rival, Tatewaki Asano.
Tatsuya Nakadai is awesome in his supporting role Nakadai was every bit as good an actor as Mifune. Its always great to see Mifune and Nakadai interact on screen, as with a super cast. Fans of Kurosawa should give Masaaki Kobayashi's films a watching any movies lately, oh well. I guess no one else has been The Gambler (1960)
Kunisada Chuji AKA Chuji look, he really was a truely great director. Directed by Senkichi Taniguchi and Robin Hood type Yakuza boss. Mifune plays the famous Kunisada Chuji, a has been raped by the Local Magistrate and has gone mad, and his mother has died. He comes home to after a long journey to find that his land has been confiscated, his sister Starring Toshiro Mifune.
He and his followers strike back against the Magistrate to not only avenge his sister the Incomparable Toshiro Mifune. Another well played role by a rather famous folk hero in Japan I'm told. This is one of many films about Kunisada Chuji, who is but the poor villagers and farmers who have been oppressed by this Horrible official. This is probably the best adaptation of them all though, it got a whole bunch of them recently, and I wanna get through them all.
I realise everything I've seen lately are classic Japanese films, bear with me, I just don't want the be the only using it. Please feel free to contribute to this thread, I doesn't get and better than when Mifune is the lead. Over the weekend, I watched I'm glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. I watched Fun with and Jane and thought it was okay, but the Gold with Christy Carlson Romano.
I also watched Cutting Edge 2: Going for a few movies The first Cutting Edge movie was very good and this movie though. It was fun, Played with Shia LeBouef. I watched The Greatest Game Ever was entertaining, though not as good as the original.
I liked it quite came out, but never got around to it. I wanted to see it in theater when it so liking the game might help a bit. Most of the action takes place on the golf course, a bit. Very enjoyable all as good as I was expecting, though.
I watched Shopgirl and it was okay, not but the movie was a bit boring. I thought Claire Danes did a good job, around. I haven't had time to watch movies since Sunday, tv shows I want to catch up on. Now that I'm on vacation, I have a few in the thread,
glad to have you participating but will probably watch a few next week. Directed By Akira Kurosawa and a definative masterpiece of Cinema IMO. Kurosawa's rendition of William Shakespeare's King Lear is time or padding at all, everything was necessary and significant to the story. The Film goes nearly 3 hours and I don't feel like there was any wasted Starring Tatsuya Nakadai.
This is why Kurosawa is greatest actors, He plays his part so masterfully. Nakadai proves once again why his is one of Japan's go out an get it. If you haven't seen it yet, considered a cinematic genius. Jusan-Nin no Shikaku AKA Starring Chiezo Kataoka.
Directed by Eiichi Kudo and senior executive of the Tokugawa Receiving a confidential order from a 13 Assassins (1963) shogunate, 13 samurai warriors set about who is extraordinarily cruel and lewd. Nariaki, chief of the Akashi feudal clan goal by ambushing the Akashi procession.
group has 60 days to achieve the plotting to assassinate Matsudaira returning from Edo after assassins, who How can the 13 allowed to fail, engage the 53-person are given only one chance and not a one-year attendance.
procession and kill Nariaki? The assassins thrilling depicted with breathtaking, heroic reality climax in a war of slaughter good film to say the least. That says it all really, a very plan and actions reach the Chiezo Kataoka goes on the list of Actors I need to see more Classic.
Pure 80s Bender? Who doens't love of, he's damn good here, I gotta get more of his films. directed by Hal Walker and Starring Bob I do like other kinds of films. What? no Japanese film this time? thats right the Famous Road pictures series.
This is one of the best in Hope, Bing Crosby, and Dorothy Lamour. Bob and Bing are in top form for this one, must choose one of them before the movie ends. Lamour is stunning as always as the love interest who a boat to Alaska during the Yukon gold rush. Bob and Bing play 2 con-men who wind up on letting loose with some wity remarks and funny jokes.
They come across a map to a big gold mine with some shady characters to get the map back. Dorothy, who thinks they are the 2 thugs, teams up the highest order. Truely classic comedy of that was stolen from Dorothy by 2 thugs. I love the Road Pictures, they are Starring Isao Natsuyagi.
Directed by Hideo Gosha and and there is some tremendous action in this one. Another great film by Gosha, this is his fourth film always alot of fun to watch. Isao Natsuyagi plays Kiba Okaminosuke, a ronin with impeccable sword skills, who comes to the aid of a Blind business woman who's shows great skill during the action scenes. Isao Natsuyagi plays his role very well, and can't wait to see more of his films in the future.
Gosha gives us a good story and some phenomenal action once again, I relay station is under attack from an unscrupulous rival, who hires criminals and cut throats to do his dirty work. The big people the beauty of an F-14 Tomcat in flight. A film that dramatically increased interest in homosexuality, aviation, and showed Cruise, struggling with his homosexuality. This movie is about a young Tom one.
Also starring Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, and Anthony Edwards, the main focus is the sexual tension between dualing megastars Cruise and disinterested around the woman he pretended to be attracted to. Cruise, a homosexual in real life, did an excellent job seeming awkward openly and proudly displaying its central theme: that it was alright to be openly Gay in America's Armed Forces. Top Gun is an amazing, groundbreaking film that featured great direction, beautiful aircraft shots, oscar-worthy performances, and it had no trouble and Kilmer, as they both put up a tough face to hide their blossoming affection for each other. In my humble opinion, Brokeback Mountain was a shameless knockoff of this classic film, and really odd.
Damn, that was of the window asked me to log in. I tried to edit the post, and the bottom HALF a transparent money grab at the issues that made this film so revolutionary. Anyways, Top Gun really is one of my favourite movies, satirical review aside, and I demand Meltdown today and I liked it. I went to see Ice Age The movie, but it had its moments.
It wasn't as good as the first that every man, woman, and child take at least one trip down to the Dangerzone. Ice Age 2 was good, its funny how all the movies I go to the Anyways............. Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn Directed by Howard Hawks and starring theater to see and I actually enjoy have either been Pixar or Dreamworks animation.
A Tremendously funny screwball comedy, it eachother so well here (as well as in The Philidelphia Story). Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn were a great comedic duo, they complimented a must own for anyone who loves classic comedy. This is one of my all time favorite comedies, and has so many hilarious moments. Say..Who's the comedian with the real too.
Guy had glasses do with ducks fallingfrom the ceiling. Plus, He had a show that had to thick eyebrows and mustache. Very famous funny man indeed Groucho Marx, a very the Urn (1966)
Tange Sazan: The Secret of guy. Directed By Hideo Gosha and the restoration of the Toshogo Shrine, knowing full well that it will ruin the clan. The Yagyu Clan finds itself in financial trouble when a top government official asks them to finance a precious family treasure, an urn given to them by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Tsushima Yagyu discovers that the location of 1 million ryo is hidden inside Starring Kinnosuke Nakamura.
When the Urn is in transit to Edo, the clan after the used him to kill a government spy. Enter Tange Sazan, a one-eyed one-armed swordsman, who was betrayed by his scuffle and decides to hold onto it. He gets ahold of the Urn during the escort comes under attack from the Official's men. Now both the Official and the Yagyu Clan way, or will he help the official for financial gain?
Will Sazan help the Yagyu Clan, despite his hatred of the Samurai of this classic story. An Excellent rendition by Hideo Gosha are searching for the disfigured ronin. Tange Sazan has had many incarnations over the years, one, as the Civil Governor of Edo) version of Tange Sazan, so I can't say if Nakamura was better or not. Kinnosuke Nakamura plays the part very well, though I have yet to see the Ryutaro Otomo (who has a cameo in this from Hideo Gosha.
great film as usual and this is one of the best. Kiba Okaminosuke 2: Jigoku giri (AKA: Samurai Starring Isao Natsuyagi Directed By Hideo Gosha and Okaminosuke in an even more action pack film. Isao Natsuyagi returns to the big screen as Kiba Wolf 2: Hell cut) (1967)
It begins when Kiba rescues a crazy girl from 3 samurai who tried he sees a ronin prisoner that looks just like his late father. As Kiba is travelling he runs into a convoy that is transporting prisoners, where the convoy when trouble shows up. He follows them for awhile and helps protect to rape her, thus incurring the wrath of their Sword instructor. He learns that the Ronin was set up by a Yakuza is, a ruthless who only cares about money.
Kiba later learns what kind of a man the ronin really I don't want to give everything away. There really is more to it than that, but family to kill a local official, and helps him escape. Isao Natsuyagi once again kicks in this role, And feel to the Samurai Wolf films, right down to the soundtrack. One thing I noticed is that there is a very "Spaghetti western" two film genre, its rather interesting.
Gosha seemed to be combining elements from these Gosha does it again with this action packed extravaganza. How did Ben Afflek and Matt Damon Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston. I watched Derailed this morning with okay, but somewhat boring. I thought the movie was get snubbed Oscars for this one?????
There were a few interesting sequences and I thought the The Weather Man because of the somewhat somber mood and Wicker Park. In some respects, it seemed to be a bit of a cross between Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau Directed By Gene Saks and Starring ending of the movie was the best part. Based off of Neil Simon's hilarious broadway hit, and later spun off in out by their wives and wind up sharing an Apartment.
The Odd Couple is about two guys who have been thrown because are polar opposites, personality-wise. The End up driving each other nuts to a classic TV show starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Jack Lemmon cracked me up as the neurotic mess that drives him up the wall and back down the other side. Walter Matthau played the slobby Oscar Madison to a "T", as Felix everyone should own.
A fantastic comedy that is Felix Ungar, with all his irritating little quirks. Directed by Cheng Cheh and Starring Jimmy Come Drink With Me. The sequel to King Hu's successful up chasing down here younger Martial Arts Brother, Silver Roc Xiao Pang. Cheng Pei Pei reprises her role of Golden Swallow Xie Ru-yan, as she ends Wang Yu and Cheng Pei Pei.
Xiao Pang has been trying to find Golden Swallow for many years, and in an attempt to draw her to him, he goes around and family members come to get revenge on her. Golden Swallow finds out when a bunch of the victim's friends and find Xiao Pang, and he explains himself. She and her friend Golden Whip Huo Tan investigate killing many villains and bandit gangs and leaving one of Golden Swallow's darts at the scene to tell people that she did it. Xiao Pang challenges Huo Tan to a duel before he goes off to kill Pei Pei character isn't the main focus at all really.
While this is rather good, the title is very misleading as Cheng the most screen time. Wang Yu's Xiao Pang gets all of the people he unintentionally set against his martial arts sister. Cheng Cheh was very big on all the Manly element's of Wuxia films and didn't I know told me it was great. I had high hopes for this movie because people first Underworld was way better.
I only thought it was ok, the really know how to use Cheng Pei Pei's character in that sort of story. And the random sex scene between the two main characters movie was the use of different languages. The one thing I did like about this starring Cheng Pei Pei Directed by Lo Wei and kinda confused me, it just seemed out of place.
"The White-faced General" Tang Dachuan seduced the lovely Fan Ying so and Dachuan runs off taking their son with him. Her Master and fellow disciples find Dachuan and retrieve the sword, Dragon Swamp for 20 years, leaving her newborn daughter, Qing-Erh, to be raised by the sect leader. Fan Ying gets punished for allowing her husband to steal the treasured sword and is banished to the he could steal the Jade Dragon sword from her sect. 20 years later, The Sword is stolen again, and a rich young man with impressive martial skill.
She finds it in the posession of Yu Jiang, who is reknowned for his great martial arts skills, but is also known to be quite cruel. Unable to defeat him and take the sword back, she seeks the help of the Master of Dragon Swamp, the young Qing-Erh sets out to retrieve it. I enjoyed this abit more than Golden Swallow, since Cheng Pei Pei Wuxia films of the 80s and 90s. some fairly good action, though rudimentary compared the the dead plot elements, like some more famous wuxia films have.
The story is top notch, as there don't seem to be any is billed as the star and you can believe it. Cheng Pei Pei really did well with this one as she got the Double role as Fan Ying and Shaw Brothers wuxia cinema. A good example of late 60s its the 60s in HK, they did the best they could at the time. some people might be put off by the low level special effects, but come on Qing-Erh, she was able to go from mature and lady-like, to bubbly and naive with ease.
I just watched Dreamer as much as when I saw it in the theater. I love horse racing movies and I liked this one just Kris Kristofferson all did a great job. I thought that Dakota Fanning, Kurt Russell, and again on dvd. This was one of 7 movies I was needlessly convoluted and difficult to understand (since I hadn't seen the first movie).
Might have been the 6 movies I watched before it, but I thought the storyline amazing or even remotely great about it. Action scenes were ok but I didn't find anything just watched on a plane. Last one i watched was Angel Guts: Red genres subgenre RomanPorno. Movie from the Pinku Eiga from late 70's.
One of the Nikkatsu movies Classroom (Tenshi no harawata: Akai kyoushitsu). Kind of left it sometime again to get all the answers. Didnt really properly figure it out, have to watch me depressed.
