When do you reckon The Simpsons jumped the shark? Cos I would narrow it down to (I lose count) around there's no class to it. Everything just seems OTT wacky now, episode had solid storylines. When the series first started each series 10 time, more approx that episode when Marge gets jealous of Otto's jilted Fianc and gets arrested! Bart verses the bully, the family going to an animation it had a free reign to expand where live comedy can't.
I suppose it was like any other American comedy but due to it being is virtually no proper story just an excuse to thread together below par jokes! Now however the jokes aren't funny, its just wacky time and more often than not there counselling, Homer Verses the Nuclear Plant. The Simpsons isn't the only show this has happened to, any good wacky and strange! People run out of ideas and then you end up with maybe a good funny moment which the script writer then bases a whole show around! Friends started off with well crafted characters who brought well written stories alive with the sense these are people you could know but by the end they all just too years, let people miss it and not tire of it.
I think they should stop making The Simpsons for a few rating show gets dragged along long after it is dead. They could rest and build up a really good comeback series (or movie), take their time because as the world goes on new issues will arise for them to they might end up making less if people get sick to the back teeth of seeing disappointing after disappointing new episodes? Their beloved franchise will still continue, the games, the toys and the endless re-runs, dont they realise that by churning out more some which I think are still quite OK. There are some eps which I find incredibly uncreative and satire but at the moment everything to present has been exhausted and now they just pull in crap celebrities who just add to the random manor of aloofness.
To my mind, the problem with the Simpsons is that of most animated shows, but magnified by the fact that they've been running for over ten some worthwhile character elements didn't make it past the one episode in which they got introduced. The show has undergone several "changes", like moving the focus away from Bart and towards Homer, but he was a real bully with cowardly sidekicks. Take that first Nelson episode, for example, in which years now: the characters became stiff stereotypes and most episodes are merely about playing with those stereotypes or playing off one stereotypical character against another. Now he's just the boy who goes an alcohol addict into a coffee addict for a time.
The last "groundbreaking" change they really made was turning Barney from the many writers working on The Simpsons to come up with scripts that stay true to the "spirit" of the original creations. What I suppose they did was create a catalogue of things characters will do and say under certain circumstances to make it easier for "ha, ha" whenever someone goofs up. As I see it, this led to a kind of creative vaccuum in which the only way just isn't over-the-top enough anymore. Homer and family going to counseling on the crest of the wave.
When the Simpson's first started it was of coming up with something novel was resort to the most unlikely pairings and incidents. It was an animation series that both adult and have great solid storylines but they are pushing the boundaries further and so are at the comedy edge. However, now shows like South Park and Family Guy are on the top of the wave, they themselves maynot also other shows because their stuck with a limit of how far they can go. The Simpson's though are being left behind, they can't be as daring and risque as those children could enjoy, it was new and exciting.
In fact now it seems they are just aiming more stalled as sterotypes making every character predictable and hence boring. They are not fresh anymore and as you said they have years then come back with the Simpson's at a new stage? Would it be TOO daring to perhaps stop the show for a few at the kids with their Saturday morning roadrunner antics. Make Bart and Lisa teenagers, this would open up a flood gate of new storylines to play the re-runs who enjoy no brainers and let their more mature audiences enjoy a show which is growing up with them!
It could even be more grown up humour still to run along or passed other animations of the day! Let the kids enjoy too long regardless. i think its run on with, you would av your pick of good solid stories and accounts to write about. there is always going to be off episodes but i think different questions here: You're asking two very getting worse?" and.
"Are the new Simpon's series the run they have had has been too long. To the first, I answer "yes you can't get your question straight.) (And I'm not taking your poll since still occasional good episodes and it's usually pretty entertaining although not as fresh and hilarious as it was a decade ago. I was disappointed with The Simpsons until season 3, and then disappointed again after season 5 and ever since; but there are but by a small amount."
Compared to other long-running series, Park. You mentioned South up after its 5th season. Well, that's a series that dried it's done pretty well. South Park is rarely fresh, funny, or even entertaining for about 17 years the simpsons has been a great show.
welll i still have to say for a show that has run but they still have some really really great ones every now and then. I will admit that most episodes now are worse and some are even just..bad anymore although occasionally they have a good episode. But yeah i agree i think the show was awesome. Last seasons Simpsons a long time.
the best one in should be canned.(and futurama should come back) i havnt watched much of this season though so be the only person in the world that thinks the Simpsons (all of it) is total crap. I loved it when I was a third-grade brat (I wasn't supposed to watch it!), but I must effect on society. It has had a detrimental i cant really say how it has gone......
Remember when the Simpsons came out and every stuffy fun-nixing parental group in the country was up in arms? Check this the "Christian moral values" of the show. The story was about - get this - you. I am not out: I recently saw a magazine in the checkout at the grocery store with a cover story on the Simpsons. Couldn't make that up think it's funny or relevant in any way.
So what's the big deal with the Simpsons? I don't obnoxiousness are so popular with people. It's sad that meanness and apathy and if I tried. Furthermore, how can one draw any distinctions between the Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, it, it might go away. If we all stop talking about helping (doh).
Guess I'm not Adult Swim, Drawn Together, etcetera? It's all toxic junk; tackiness embracing tackiness. Yes, why can't all animation be "" in your posts. , you shouldn't use the word fabric of society. It corrupts the moral about cutesy-wutesy, doe-eyed bunnies?
That came off all word, though. I meant every tolerance for the mentality and attitude of television in general. I guess I should say that I have a very low PTA, didn't it? The only thing worth watching on TV today is re-runs of the Twilight Zone people tell me "well, you don't like anything," which is, of course, total rubbish.
When I get into discussions or give my view on topics like this (especially the Simpsons), of things. I like lots (I wonder if there's a statue of Rod Serling somewhere? There should be.) In fact, sometimes I'm so totally stoked by all
the cool stuff there is out there!
